So this morning I rose up early as I often do and thought to read my online bible devotional. It was entitled “Beauty Marks”. While reading, I began to think about the scars on my left breast and under my left armpit due to the breast cancer surgery I recently had last month. Let me just say, I am recovering well – smile. Upon meditating on the devotional, it dawned on me that the marks that I now bear on my body serves as a reminder and purpose of what I have gone through and how I can share my experience in hope to encourage, uplift, and inspire others who maybe going through a surprisingly, suddenly painful/hurtful situation. I can share that no matter how awful the pain maybe there is healing that follows if we allow ourselves to go through the process. I say that because it is choice. We can choose just to stay in the “state” of pain or we can obey the “doctor’s” orders to heal and recover. Over time, what once was wounds can eventually be seen as “beauty marks”.

“Beauty marks are wounds that have been transformed into purpose. They remind you that God is redeeming what you’ve suffered and can heal you from the inside out. Maybe your heart feels as if it’s bleeding right now, and healing seems impossible. Trust that the God who created you and loves you is able to heal every broken place” (excerpt from the devotional).

Scars serves as a purpose…it reminds us of the pain/hurt we endured and the healing we experienced that followed behind it. Let your scars become your beauty marks to encourage and comfort others along the way.

In closing let me share that even Jesus, upon his resurrection, showed his scars (nail prints in his hands) to not only prove that he is the risen Savior but to also convey that he too was wounded, marred by hurtful evil people yet he forgave them and us to, but not did he forgive we are healed. For the Bible says and by his stripes we are healed.

Let’s encourage someone today by showing our scars. We are survivors! We are Healed!
